Coastal Flood Warning in Jacksonville: King Tides Bring Flooding Through Wednesday — What to Do and Where to Get Help
Updated Monday, October 26, 2026, based on the National Weather Service in Jacksonville and the City of Jacksonville. Conditions can change — check weather.gov/jax and JaxReady.com for the latest.
The National Weather Service has a Coastal Flood Warning in effect for Jacksonville and the beaches until 2:00 AM Thursday, October 29. Strong northeast winds and king tides — the highest tides of the year — are pushing water into streets, yards, and low homes around high tide. If the water or a power outage hits your home this week, check what help you qualify for or let us apply for you.
What is happening
The Weather Service expects moderate to possibly major flooding around the times of high tide. Numerous roads may close, and low-lying homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be inundated. The City of Jacksonville says water could reach 2.5 to 3.5 feet above normally dry ground along the Atlantic coast and the Intracoastal Waterway, and 2 to 3 feet in flood-prone areas along the St. Johns River — including San Marco, Riverside, the Northbank into Hogans Creek, and Ken Knight Drive. Winds may gust to 45 mph, so power outages are possible. The city has partially opened its Emergency Operations Center and placed swiftwater rescue teams on standby.
At the beaches, a High Surf Advisory runs until 8:00 AM Wednesday with breaking waves of 8 to 10 feet, and a high risk of rip currents lasts through late Wednesday night.
Stay safe
- Never drive through flooded roads or around barricades. You cannot tell how deep the water is or whether the road under it is washed out. Turn around.
- Stay out of the ocean. The surf and rip currents are dangerous even for strong swimmers. If you do go in the water, swim near a lifeguard.
- Move your car and your papers up. If your street floods at high tide, park on higher ground before the water rises, and move documents, medicines, and valuables off the floor.
- Stay away from downed power lines and anything touching them. Treat every line as live.
- Bring in or tie down outdoor items that wind and water can carry away.
